Established at The Golf Club of Georgia in 1998, The Georgia Cup annually brings together the reigning United States Amateur and British Amateur Champion for an 18-hole match in advance of the Masters.
The 2009 Georgia Cup Match was won by U.S. Amateur Champion Danny Lee of New Zealand, who defeated British Amateur Champion Reinier Saxton of The Netherlands, 2&1, on the Lakeside Course March 31.
Shown on The Golf Channel and Comcast Sports Southeast, The Georgia Cup has grown from an intimate Club event to a unique amateur championship known on both sides of the Atlantic.
The Georgia Cup is sponsored by SunTrust and benefits the Yates Scholarship Fund of the Georgia State Golf Foundation.
All Georgia Cup participants and Georgia Cup Honorary Captains are guests of the Club during Georgia Cup Week and become Honorary Lifetime Members of The Golf Club of Georgia.
The Georgia Cup All-Time series stands at 6-5 in favor of the United States following a 2 and 1 win by United States Amateur Champion Colt Knost of Pilot Point, Tex., over British Amateur Champion Drew Weaver of High Point, N.C., in the 2008 Georgia Cup.
