GEORGIA TECH COASTS TO UNITED STATES COLLEGIATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AS ‘MASTERS OF COLLEGE GOLF' ENJOYS SUCCESSFUL DEBUT ON FALL SCHEDULE
2011-2012 USCC Committee Chairman – Rich Dennis
After four years as college golf's spring major, the United States Collegiate Championship moved to the fall in 2010 with smashing results.
Not only did host Georgia Tech and Junior James White coast to the Team and Individual titles in record fashion Oct. 24-26, the tournament debuted corporate skyboxes around the 18th green of The Golf Club of Georgia's award-winning Lakeside Course – a first for college golf.
The USCC enjoyed tremendous corporate involvement, co-presented by Siemens, Priority Payment Systems, David Oakey Designs and Atlanta Classic Cars/Mercedes-Benz, with other major sponsors including Amerifleet Transportation, Capital Directions Wealth Management and Pratt Industries.
The field continued to be one of college golf's best with the following teams competing – Georgia Tech, Clemson, UCLA, Southern Cal, Washington, California, Texas A&M, Florida State, East Tennessee State, Duke, Wake Forest, Virginia, South Carolina, Kent State and Georgia State.
Kent State coach Herb Page, whose Golden Flashes competed in the event for the first time, called the USCC, “By far, the No. 1 Collegiate tournament in the nation.”
Unique in college golf, the USCC features caddies for every player, required long pants for competitors and galleries able to walk in the fairways behind the players in the style of the U.S. Amateur and Walker Cup.
The United States Collegiate Championship crowns Team and Individual Champions, which are honored on the Club's perpetual mahogany, gold and crystal trophy. The tournament is televised by Comcast Sports Southeast, which serves 6 million households in 13 states.
